Breaded Steak Sandwich

Tonight I wanted to try something else.  As I walked through the store, I was wondering what kind of ingredients I would use.  I started off with some eye of round steak slices to be used for steak on a bun.  That’s when I figured I would make a hot sandwich.

First off, I got the vegetables ready that I was planning on using on the sandwich; spinach, shitake mushrooms and sliced onions.  Mixing them together, I sauteed them with a bit of butter.

Next, I prepard the batter for the steak and the flour.  I seasoned it with onion powder, pepper, salt and some steak spice.  I covered the bottom of the frying pan with oil and then added some garlic.  I added the steak to the pan and sauteed for a minute or two and then flipped and sauteed for another minute or two.

I set the oven to broil and put some italian buns sliced in half into the oven for a few minutes to toast them.  Removing them from the oven,  I topped them with the breaded steak, followed with a slice of jalepeno havarti and then the vegetables.  Putting them back into the oven for a few more minutes allowed the cheese to melt nicely.

To finish it off, I added a pickle slice and a mayo mixture I made with mayo, dijon mustard and chipotle cream cheese.

My wife absolutely loved this dish and said that this was now her favorite sandwich.  The kids also loved it.  The flavours were great and made a very nice quick meal!
